About
Ullie
Uliaris is being called
‘Ullie’ around the house. Ullie is a lilac
bicolor pointed F2 Selkirk Rex. His sire is Jethro Jarod du Hovali
(chocolate) and his dame is UK import Lelaurier Backtosquareone (Bunny, a blue
and white). The fact that they had a pointed kitten wasn't a real surprise
for us. Actually we had hoped for it. Jarod was suspected to be a
point carrier for quite a long time. His mothers grandfather is pointed. We
had Jarod tested through DNA and he turned out to be a carrier. Bunny’s dame is a pointed, so it wasn't hard for us to know she was
a carrier.
Thanks to Claire and Stef
we were able to take Bunny in after her owner brought her back to them. We
are very gratefull to them for allowing us to take care of Bunny. She will
definitely make a great contribution to our breeding program. Jarod tends to
be a little bit too much british in type. And Bunny might give us a
better Selkirk Rex type. We think it worked out very nicely with the litter
she and Jarod had.
It was quite a
difficult delivery for Bunny, which ended in a ceasarian. Unfortunatly the
babies got to much of the sleeping drug into their system, so it took us
more than an hour to get them breathing on their own. The litter consisted
out of 1 point curly
male (Ullie), 1 blue/white curly female, 1
choc/white curly male, 1 lilac/white curly female and 1 choc/white straight
female. Happy we went home with an exhausted Bunny and 5 kittens.
Sadly in the morning after the blue and white kitten and the chocolate and
white curly kitten passed away.
Because we had never
bred a pointed kitten before and because pointed kittens are born completely
white we had to wait to see what colour Ullie would be. Because his points
started colouring quite late and his body was cream coloured he had to be a
lilac pointed. But why did his feet did not get colouring??? A few weeks
later it became clear why. Ullie not only was pointed but he also was a
bicolor.
Ullie’s second name
was a bit of a joke. Geneviève had seen a similar name somewhere with a
breeder in the USA or UK. It was
‘2QT2BSTR8’ there. We transformed that by placing 'UR' in front of that.
For the people who are still clueless on what it means, it stands for ‘You are too cute to be straight’.
Because Ullie isn't a
Selkirk Rex Straight but a curly we thought that would be funny.
At the moment both
Ullie and his sisters Umaiza (Hatoba) and Uskaya (Lucy) still life with us. Lucy
will move to the UK in july and Hatoba will move to Japan around then also.
Ullie LOVES cuddling
and purring. If he doesn't get any loving he will jump into your arms if he
feels that's necessary whether you want to or not. In the morning hie is one
of the first to welcome at the top of the stairs.
We hope he will grow up
to be a succesfull successor of Jarod. For the time being Ullie will not be
available for stud service. We are going to evaluate how he grows up before
he might become available.
